VetTechPrograms.org is an independent educational publishing website helping students find accredited veterinary technician programs across the United States. We are not affiliated with any school, university, licensing board, or government agency.

Our mission is to help future veterinary technicians — including high school graduates, career changers, vet assistants pursuing advancement, military veterans, adult learners, and online students — make informed decisions about their education and careers, using verified information from primary sources.

Why This Site Exists

Students researching vet tech programs face a confusing landscape. Many websites list programs without verifying AVMA accreditation. Salary figures are often outdated. The differences between Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), and Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) — and between vet techs and veterinary assistants — are frequently blurred or misrepresented.

VetTechPrograms.org was built to fix that.

Content on this site is researched from authoritative primary sources, including the AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA), the Bureau of Labor Statistics, state veterinary licensing boards, and the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB). Content is updated as new data becomes available and clearly labeled with the date of most recent review.

Our Editorial Standards

Educational content about regulated professions should meet high standards of accuracy, transparency, and editorial integrity. That means:

Verified facts. We strive to verify every statistic, fee, licensing requirement, and program detail using authoritative primary sources whenever available. When information cannot be verified from an official source, we either omit it or clearly note its limitation.

Transparent sourcing. State pages cite the primary sources used whenever practical, including direct links to state licensing boards, AVMA accreditation databases, and BLS salary data. Readers are encouraged to verify the research independently.

Regular updates. State licensing requirements change. BLS releases new salary data every May. AVMA accreditation statuses change as programs are added or removed. Content is reviewed at least annually and updated as soon as practical after verification when significant changes occur.

How Content Is Produced

Each state page on VetTechPrograms.org follows the same research process:

Step 1 — Primary source research. Information is gathered directly from state veterinary licensing boards, AVMA CVTEA, BLS Occupational Employment Statistics, AAVSB, and individual program websites. Whenever possible, salary and licensing information is verified using official government agencies, licensing boards, accreditation organizations, and primary educational sources.

Step 2 — Fact verification. Fees, exam requirements, CE hours, and program details are cross-checked against the official source. License renewal periods, application fees, and exam requirements are verified directly from current state board publications whenever available.

Step 3 — Pass rate inclusion. VTNE first-time pass rates are sourced from AVMA CVTEA’s published data and included when publicly available.

Step 4 — Date verification. Each page documents the date of its most recent verification. When sources are reviewed and confirmed current, the date is updated. When changes are found, content is updated as soon as practical.

Step 5 — Editorial review. Content goes through editorial review before publication for accuracy, clarity, and consistency with our editorial standards.

Fact-Checking Process

Every state guide is reviewed against official licensing board requirements before publication and periodically rechecked for updates. Research and drafting tools may assist our editorial process, but published content is reviewed and verified against official educational and licensing sources before publication.
